Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. I offer therapy to help people unravel the fear of being a burden and embrace a life of simple authenticity.

It’s not easy to be someone who creates space for others: you have to lean on others making space for you to be seen, and oftentimes, that space just doesn’t come. You feel lonely and isolated and overlooked sometimes by the people who should know you best. Sometimes you can feel like no one really knows who you are.

If you're like many of my clients, some things you might experience include:

  • feeling like a burden if you take up much space in relationships

  • often labeled as "kind," "nice," or "sweet"

  • struggling to feel seen or known in an authentic way

  • often the peacemaker in family relationships

  • tendency to avoid conflict and difficult conversations

  • not feeling like it's welcomed to have strong opinions or needs in family

  • experiencing anxiety, a loud inner-critic, guilt, fear

  • a level of sadness or emptiness that creeps in sometimes, even when life looks good on paper

If many of these sound like you, I know firsthand that it's not an easy place to be. It's actually harder than it seems because it is so hidden in the background and shadows of relationships. But from where I'm sitting, I'm confident life can get better. You can get to a place where you feel seen, safe and even free.

You don't have to be left out of the equation in your life anymore. And, you don't have to swing to the other extreme of taking up too much space either. You can find precisely your path of peace, one where you are authentically yourself, free to simply "be" and be seen, and not feel like the risk of rejection holds sway over how you live anymore.

I would be honored to walk with you on the path to get there. Let's turn that corner together to a life where you can simply be "you."

Therapy to unravel the fear of being a burden and embrace a life of simple authenticity

About therapy with kathleen

About The Therapy Process

The type of counseling I do is called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In a nutshell, ACT involves helping you become more grounded in who you truly are and what you care about rather than what you fear or what you've always done (habits/reactions). Our fears often sneak their way into our decisions and lead us towards choosing less “real” or vibrant paths than we are meant to walk and we end up disappearing into the shadows.

In our work together, you will learn to face your fears, even the sneaky ones, and let them simply come along with you on your true journey, instead of letting them pull you onto a path that isn’t yours. Through this work, you won’t feel a need to hide as much anymore, you won’t feel as trapped by your thoughts and negative self-talk, you will know more clearly what you want from life and relationships, and your life will feel more real, full, and meaningful.

It's up to you if you'd like to meet in-person or via Zoom. If you prefer in-person, know that I also offer walk-and-talk therapy at Wissahickon Park.
